Aidan Coleman
Aidan - my week can only get better!
27 January 2012
It hasn’t been a great week to be honest – I haven’t finished on four of my last five rides and suffered a couple of heavy falls to boot.
I think I would have won on Samurai Way at Leicester on Tuesday and then I suffered a heavy fall from Reginaldinho at Warwick yesterday (Thursday), when I would have been second.
I tweeted afterwards that I was amused to see Andy Richmond describing on Racing UK the fall as “soft”. It certainly wasn’t and I had a laugh about it with Andy afterwards.
Little did I know I’d set something off on Twitter, including Will Kennedy replying, “yea, and they’d know.’
It was only a bit of fun and I certainly wasn’t having a go. These things can be misinterpreted on Twitter.
One thing that has been made clear on Twitter is AP’s hunger for the game. He was furious with the headline in one of the papers and then a comment piece, which were inferring he’d lost his appetite for the game.
I can assure you he’s just as driven – if not more so. AP will probably go and win the big race at Doncaster on Saturday and we’ll be seeing some different headlines.
I’m at Cheltenham on Saturday for three interesting rides, kicking off with Tango De Juilley in the (JCB) Triumph Hurdle Trial.
He’s probably the best juvenile we’ve got, but he’s up against the best four-year-olds in the country and this probably looks the best race of its kind this year.
That said, he’s entitled to be there on the back of his two seconds and looks to be a consistent horse in the making.
Pentiffic is a very interesting horse and runs in the novices’ handicap chase. He arrived at Venetia’s about a year ago, via Australia and Japan, but did a leg in his final race in Japan so we gave him plenty of time to recuperate.
He had some excellent form overseas but what that translates to, is difficult to say. We were satisfied with his first two runs and then he progressed to win at Huntingdon a fortnight ago.
It really is difficult to say how good he is and whether he’s on a good mark or not, but on the basis of his last race, he should go well.
My other ride is on Art Professor, who runs in the handicap hurdle. He’s a very fragile horse, who only runs a couple of times a season, and he pleased us with his third at Kempton over Christmas.
Thankfully, he came out of the race well and this looks a similar contest, so I’d be disappointed if he wasn’t in the first four.
Finally, a word on Mon Mome, he was hating the ground at Haydock from the word go last week, and I know it looked like we stopped abruptly but I was just looking for the right place to pull him up.
All his best form is on good to soft and soft, and I wouldn’t read anything into that performance apart from that he hates heavy, bottomless ground.
I think he’ll have one more race, maybe over hurdles, and then all roads lead to Aintree.

Dennis Wardle | 1 week agoHey everyone! if you want a proper tip then get on APRIL FOOL in the 15.55 at Kempton today. This horse loves to lead and was forced to set a frantic gallop last time, he will get a much easier lead today in just a 4 horse race, is well in on ratings and will prove very hard to pass. Happy punting!
Kirk Wyatt | 2 weeks agoif this guy has bee racing for 45 year s then shame on him for his disgraceful attitude on here. Whats wrong with you?. I saw the race and he was taken wide because he was never confident at the flights and the jockey was ‘taking care of him’. How can you watch racing so long and still have a childish and ignorant view on what goes on in front of you. Deary deary me!

Dennis Wardle | 3 weeks agoi have been racing over 45years.. it is not stuck with no pin it has been picked by form and as far as i am concerned it wa definately a 100% non trier. why did he swtich the horse to the wide outside with 4 to jump and keep switching his hands and rode the horse home in a canter.. it was that much of a pin stick it was gambled from 12’s which i took last night into 4/1 this morning. so obviously all the other punters thought the same as me.. anytime u want to challenge me at gambling i will take u on anytime and i will guarentee i come out on top.. you just simply cant win when the jocky isnt trying.. i think you need some new glasses!
Dennis Wardle | 3 weeks agoDespite Dennis Wardles “very good e/w bet” on Aidan’s mount Old Way, and his subsequent comment suggesting Aidan did not try on his mount, i too watched the race and with respect Mr wardle must be a poor judge as in my opinion, the horse lost a couple of lengths at several hurdles and had to be pushed and bumped along just passed halfway. Noone in their right mind could describe the jockey as not trying, unless one is a little bitter at losing a few shillings! This was Oldway’s first outing for 75 days, he won a maiden hurdle back last year before going down by 47 lengths in the Imperial Cup at Sandown. His 2 outings this year in October and November have shown defeats by 95 lengths and 61 lengths! Was this a blindfold stick a pin in your newspaper Mr Wardle? Mark Ring
Mark Ring | 3 weeks agoaiden coleman i had a very good ew bet on the horse you rode today, old way. After watchin the replay many times i have come t the conclusion i was on a non trier hope my moneys down when you do try!..
