Watch Dettori, Queally and Buick in action in Mauritius on Racing UK
The renowned International Jockeys’ Challenge from Mauritius, featuring Frankie Dettori, Tom Queally and William Buick, is live and exclusive to Racing UK (Sky 432/Virgin 536) this weekend.
The two-day challenge starting on Saturday has attracted eight top-class jockeys from around the world, who will all be calling on their prowess in the saddle to negotiate the right-handed oval track, just under 1300m in circumference and only 12 to 14 metres wide. Willie Carson once described the lay-out as “tighter than the Chester paddock, let alone Chester Racecourse.”
Director of Broadcasting David Bellin said: “With the bitter snap wreaking havoc with the fixture list, Racing UK is delighted to be showing racing from the unique Champ de Mars racecourse in Mauritius, featuring some jockeys obviously extremely well-known to our viewers.
“The challenge follows on from the well-received broadcast of the Velka Pardubicka from the Czech Republic in October – another international event which created much interest in the UK.”
Joining the three British-based riders in the Top Jockeys category are Stephane Pasquier and Davy Bonilla (France) Michael Rodd (Australian), Robbie Burke (Mauritius) and Imran Christy (India). Champion apprentice Martin Lane is in the Rising Stars category.
